- What influences teachers and students to use technology in the classroom?
- A paragraph in which you reflect on the ISTE standards for educators. Specifically cite 1 standard that is meaningful to you and 1 that seems outside your current skill set. (Include an explanation).
- A paragraph on whether or not you agree with the label “digital native” for today’s youth. What does it mean to be a digital native? Have you seen differences between how you (digital native) and most of your teachers (digital immigrants) use technology? If so, describe them and what their impact has been on your learning experience. What differences do you anticipate between you and your future students in terms of how you use technology?
I believe that teachers and students are influenced to use technology in the classroom because of all the modern tech gadgets that are being implemented in schools. Nowadays, whiteboards are being replaced with Promethean and Smart Boards. Teachers must be trained and up-to-date with how to use the software in order to deliver instruction properly. Students must know how to use the equipment and other things such as a laptop, in order to submit homework.
One standard that is meaningful to me is standard Number 3.Citizen, which is having empathy and compassion for others when using technology. As a person that has seen the effects of cyberbullying, I want to encourage my students to use technology but in a safe and respectful manner. One that seems a bit outside my skill set would be 4.collaborator just because I don't know much about technology. I would have to learn/train about the technology prior to teaching it to my students.
I feel like the term "digital native" is a correct representation of what our youth was brought upon. In simple terms, being a digital native is being brought up during the age of digital technology, and being familiar with how to utilize them. I feel like there isn't much of a difference between my teachers and me when it comes down to technology. Since many teachers are required to be up-to-date with the school's latest gadgets in order to input grades or use the Smart Board to lead out a lecture. I anticipate that my students in the future will know way more about modern technology than I will.
